As the Lodge is just 3 kms from the beautifully preserved and historic university town of Stellenbosch, it is ideally located for exploring what is one of South Africa’s oldest communities. Many of the original buildings have been faithfully restored. There are many outstanding examples to see of Cape Dutch architecture, mainly along Dorp Street, as well as several leading art galleries, museums, beautiful boutiques, antique shops, jewellers, farm stalls and an exciting range of restaurants, bistros and brasseries.

De Zalze also lies on the Stellenbosch Wine Route, South Africa’s most prominent wine route and source of many of the country’s award-winning wines, making it the perfect base from which to learn firsthand about the area’s most renowned wineries.

Golfers can indulge virtually on the spot at the De Zalze Golf Course – one of the Cape’s finest venues – and continue at a range of other top-ranking courses in the Winelands and beyond.
